Clean Energy Electric Bike Project
A group of trainees of the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT), under the sponsorship of Al Forsan Ceramics, has been charged up by a special project called “clean energy e-bike,” or electric bike, a trainee-driven initiative that is working to create environmentally-friendly transportation options by converting standard bikes to electric bikes.
The e-bike looks just like a regular tricycle. However, the three-wheel e-bike has a battery-driven motor attached to it that supplies power to the bike. With little modification, the design of the e-bike is adaptable to the current hand-powered tricycles. The design consists of an electric motor, a drive system, motor and steering controls, and a power supply. It can carry a maximum weight of 350 kg and can reach a maximum speed of 30 km/hr and cover up to 70 km on a single electric charge.
This project aims to add an electric power train and control system to the current hand-powered e-bike to provide users with improved levels of mobility, facilitating freedom in travel and contributing to the community. Project e-bike further aims to make transportation more energy-efficient using clean energy without carbon emissions, as well as make healthier modes of transportation easily accessible.
The trainees involved in the project as part of the fulfillment of their training in the electrical and mechanical maintenance course were very much proud of this achievement. Their sponsoring company, Al Forsan Ceramics, witnessed such an accomplishment during the e-bike testing and presentation on their graduation day, held at HIWPT Multi-Purpose Hall in Rabigh on June 3, 2021.
