Twelve students from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) completed successfully the pump and valve technology course offered by the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT). The training was conducted at the KAUST campus in Thuwal, outside Jeddah, from February 26 to March 2, 2023.

The training was conducted by Engr. Mahmoud Abdulnaeem, Senior Technical Instructor at HIWPT and an expert in mechanical engineering training and development.

According to Engr. Abdulnaeem, the practical pump and valve technology course, a 5-day intensive training course that can be held on-site or at the HIWPT campus, is one of the many short course programs in operations & maintenance offered by HIWPT.

“At the end of the course, students from KAUST gained knowledge in understanding the different types of pumps and their associated terminology, including centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, packing, mechanical seals and sealing systems, bearings, and couplings; different parameters affecting the operation of valves; and the ability to select the right valve for the particular application, to perform the necessary calculation for valve sizing, to perform troubleshooting of systems involving valves, and to decide on the right maintenance plan concerning different types of valves,” he said.
